Civil services exam is conducted in three phases and notification for exam comes in April and Prelims falls in August, and a candidate should be a minimum of 21 years old on august 1 of the year of examination. The prelims result comes in September, and the Mains exam falls in December and result is out mostly in March.

Phase I - A preliminary examination (Objective Section) consisting of two objective-type papers.

Phase II - A main examination is subjective section (Essay), consisting of nine papers of conventional.

Phase III - After these two stages, you need to prepare for Personality Test Interview which is mostly conducted in months of March and April. Final result comes out in May/ June. This are the stages to be followed in order to crack UPSC examinations.

Here is the article for all your questions about GRADUATE APTITUDE TEST IN ENGINEERING (GATE). YES! It is not an easy task with increasing cut-throat competition. GATE preparation requires a thorough understanding of 10-12 core subjects as well as aptitude skills to crack challenging questions. So, let me give all the info you need to know about GATE.
Firstly, what is GATE?

GATE paper pattern:

There are 27 disciplines of engineering and science subjects in the GATE examination papers list with the standard and high quality. In all the papers, there will be a total of 65 questions carrying 100 marks and a 3-hour exam duration.
1. In the papers bearing the codes CS, EE, EC, ME, AE, AG, BT, CE, CH, IN, ME, MN, MT, PE, PI, TF, and XE, the engineering mathematics will carry around 15% of the marks, the general aptitude section will carry 15% of the marks and the remaining 70% of the total marks is devoted to the core subjects of the paper. 
2. In the papers bearing the codes AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, and XL, the general aptitude section will carry 15% of the total marks, and the remaining 85% of the total marks is devoted to the core subjects of the paper.
While coming to the marking scheme, for 1-mark MCQs, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. Likewise, for 2-mark MCQs, a 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer. And there is NO negative marking for numerical answer type questions(NAQs).
