Role Of Mechanical Engineers In Army:
There are many roles to the mechanical Engineers in the army. Their first task is to provide mobility to own forces by constructing bridges, tracks, removable obstacles, making safe passages through enemy minefields, and so on.

And they also needed to develop prototypes and new designs. Engineering plays an important role in the day to day life including everything even the defence sector. In the defense sector being an engineer, you will also be a defence person.

Mechanical Engineer, aeronautical engineer, electrical n also electronics are preferred the most and then other respective branches but these play a big role in defence.

1.SSC(Short Service Commission) Tech Entry|| Indian Army:

SSC in Indian Army is the tenure of officers. The SSC officer’s tenure is 10+4 years, and after completion of this tenure, the male officers can either opt for a Permanent Commission or can opt-out of the Indian Army. Initially, the officers are enrolled for a tenure of 10 years then they can further continue for additional 4 years, after this completion of 10+4 years the men can continue and take up a permanent commission or they can also opt-out, but the women officers have to opt-out.

The training academy for SSC officers is Officers Training Academy (OTA) Chennai. There are various options through which you can join the Officers Training Academy. You can join OTA through a written exam conducted by UPSC twice a year and then passing the 5 day SSB interview and clearing the medicals. Technical graduates and Law graduates can directly join by passing an SSB interview and medicals, without any written test. The duration of the training is 49 weeks.

  • Eligibility: Engineering graduation(mech).
  • Age limit: 20 to 27 years.
  • Salary: 56,000-2,50,000.

2.Indian Army Corps of Engineers

This is one of the oldest arms of the Indian Army. In India, the army corps of engineers consists of three major constituents. They are

 

  • Indian Army Combat engineers : Combat engineers play a key role key in providing mobility to own forces by constructing bridges, tracks, and helipads, on the other hand, also the Corps denies the same to the enemy by creating obstacles like laying minefields and demolition of bridges.

        

  • MES(Military Engineering Service)
    Military engineers are responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of all works, buildings, airfields, dock installations, etc. In addition, they are also engaged with additional services such as military roads, electricity supply and water,  furniture, refrigeration which are required by the Army, Navy, and Air Force in India.
    The MES(Military Engineering Service) is the largest construction agency in the country. The engineering arm of the Ministry of Defence, Military Engineering Service primarily provides for three arms of Defence forces, the Army, Air Force, and Navy, and also to the other Defence-related departments and organizations.MES was founded in 1851 to provide rear-line-engineering support to the erstwhile British Indian Army.

    Qualification: Graduation in Engineering.
    Age limit: 21to 30 years.
    Starting Salary: 46,000

  • BRO(Border roads organization)
    The Border Roads Organisation is one of the major arms of the Defence services which is playing a key role by constructing national highways, airfields, buildings, and bridges. Construction of a large number of roads in some inaccessible areas of the Rajasthan, Himalayas, and the North Eastern States have contributed significantly to their economic development.

    Eligibility: Engineering graduation (Mechanical).
    Age limit: 18 to 25 years.
    Starting salary: 20,0000.
